You may have noticed there has been a trend over the last few years for
Tattoo Parlours to move into suburban shopping malls. You could find
them alongside your favourite ice cream shop, café or clothing store.
Traditionally, they have often been located in the edgier parts of town.
Now, they are coming in from the cold, so to speak.
Shops are appearing in up-market resorts and exclusive boutiques, which
is an indication of their acceptance and popularity. The fact that
several tattoo shop operators are establishing chains both nationally
and internationally further underlines the growth in the industry.
There seems to be plenty of evidence of the growing popularity of
tattooing. Pew Research Centre says around 36 per cent of 18 to
25-year-olds has tattoos whilst Harris Interactive has 32% of the 25 to
29 age group with tattoos and 25% of the 30 to 39 age group. Sometimes
the figures seem greater than this when we see the number of celebrities
with tattoos. Not only are they evident for us all to see but also
there are more news items and articles which makes mention of celebrity
tattoos.
Certainly, there is a lot more accountability in an
up-market shopping mall as the mall management could be dragged into any
customer dissatisfaction or disputes. This could taint the reputation
of the whole mall
It also means that they have had to satisfy the safety regulations of
local government authorities. Generally, this is no easy task as the
regulations can be quite stringent. This is as it should be. Local
government officials are entrusted with the care of their constituents
and improperly run tattoo shops can pose a health risk.
The growth of the industry means more experienced business people are
being attracted by the opportunities. This in turn will mean well run
shops with competitive pricing.
If you are looking for a tattoo,
and feel nervous about it, you may not have to look much further than
your local mall or shopping centre. This should give you some comfort
because you know the shop has to conform to local health regulations and
it will want to maintain its reputation.
In all cases make sure you check the reputation of the tattoo shop before you get them to do any work.
